I appreciate the <em>News &amp; Record<\/em>\u2019s dedication to running locally written reviews when so many newspapers have abandoned that effort, and I urge those who can to check the review out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lindabrinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/beginnersgoodbye.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-782\" title=\"beginnersgoodbye\" src=\"https:\/\/lindabrinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/beginnersgoodbye-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindabrinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/beginnersgoodbye-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/lindabrinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/beginnersgoodbye-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lindabrinson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/beginnersgoodbye.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>I can\u2019t post a link because the <em>News &amp; Record<\/em> is commendably trying to avoid giving its content away free online. But I will urge Anne Tyler fans to seek out this latest book. As I said in the review, many of us loyal fans have grown older (and maybe wiser?) along with Tyler. She deals with many of the same themes, with the same light, loving touch, in her more recent books as she did in the novels she wrote more than 30 years ago. As might be expected, her characters are a little more subdued and her comedy a bit lower key these days.\u00a0 But her writing still sparkles, and her insights into life \u2013 ordinary life, the way most of us experience it \u2013 are clear and comforting.
