A few days ago, I posted a review here of Anne Perry’s 2010 Christmas novel, A Christmas Odyssey. For my reviews of three additional new Christmas- or winter-themed novels, take a look at today’s (Dec. 12) book page in the Greensboro News & Record.
I nominated The Christmas Chronicles: The Legend of Santa Claus by Tim Slover for a place on the shelf of classic Christmas tales to be reread every year. I found Cynthia Keller’s An Amish Christmas to be somewhat predictable but still a pleasant holiday tale. And Jon Katz’s Rose in a Storm, though not a Christmas tale, offers (to quote myself) “a message of faith, new birth and hope for the future.” It also is a fascinating attempt to get inside the brain of a border collie, possibly the most intense of dogs.
The News & Record is one of the few remaining newspapers of its size to publish a book page with locally written reviews. Book lovers in the area should support its efforts.

I won’t tell Charlie you called him a dog….
You won’t need to tell him. He will probably logon and read this himself.
